PARSED ACTIONS
Weaknesses in the parser (to fix) :
-so far, there's no disambiguation - if you type "LICK NOSE", and both you and Nicholson are in the room, the game will pick a random nose; it should ask what nose to lick instead.
Below are the different actions parsed by the game so far. You are welcome to suggest new synonyms and new actions.
GO, WALK, STEP, LEAVE, RUN : go to some place. Recognized, not implemented.
TAKE, GRAB, GET, ACQUIRE, PICK UP : get an object, if it is in the room and it's not in a closed container. Recognized, and parsed.
COMBINE, MIX, BUILD, TINKER, MAKE, ASSEMBLE : use an object on another object to make a better object (i.e. COMBINE KITTEN AND KNIFE gives a KITTEN MITTENS). Could possibly be a synonym of USE X ON Y. Recognized, not implemented.
USE, EMPLOY : use an object (possibly on something/someone). Recognized, not implemented.
EAT, NOM, SWALLOW, ENGULF : eat an edible object. Recognized, parsed.
TASTE, LICK : lick something (licking Crab Nicholson is usually not a wise decision). Recognized, parsed.
SMELL, SNIFF : smell an object. Recognized, parsed.
HEAR, LISTEN : listen to the room or to a specific thing. Recognized, parsed.
SCRATCH, FONDLE, RUB, STROKE, FEEL, TOUCH : touch something. Recognized, parsed.
DIE, KILL, SLAY, MURDER, ELIMINATE, SLAUGHTER : kill a living thing (possibly using an object). Recognized, doesn't do anything.
OPEN : open a closed object, revealing its contents. Recognized, parsed.
CLOSE : close an open object. Recognized, parsed.
INSERT, PUT [IN, ON] : put an object on/in another object. Putting ON requires a surface object (bed, floor...), while putting IN requires a container (opening it if it's closed). Recognized, parsed.
OBSERVE, EXAMINE, LOOK, SEE, WATCH, STARE, GAZE, OGGLE, X, L : look around, or examine an object. Recognized, parsed.
WEAR, EQUIP, WIELD : equip a wearable object. Recognized, but does nothing.
EXIT : closes the game. Recognized, parsed.

Re: PARSED ACTIONS
How about some actions like:
Shit/poop/shat/shete/Do something (Just simply these words for 1 action) = You have shitted yourself, you stink now.
Remove dick/penis/penile/The man's weapon = You have removed your best friend, you will be a virgin for ever.
get ye flask = You can't get ye flask!
lick elbow = You have become a woman.
go to bear = You are know a bear, crab nichholson a bear, everything and everyone is A MOTHER FUCKING BEAR.

Agreed.Orteil wrote:Ogirdor => no.
I think we should have "Get ye flask" in there, though. A tip of the hat to Thy Dungeonman.
Maybe include a Dennis easter egg somewhere, too.

Re: PARSED ACTIONS
You should be able to use almost any object to kill yourself, and the more awesome the object, the higher the bonus to your end score. It's like, after you save, instead of quitting you
>KILL SELF WITH TOASTER
and go out with a bang. Would require a description for each object usable, so no small feat.

Re: PARSED ACTIONS
How about, whenever user types a common troll statement (eg "I fucked you're mom" also somewhere in Nicholson's house there should be a PS3 to provoke "nogaems")
'Crab Nicholson rushes into the room and MURDERS THE FUCKING SHIT OUT OF YOU. You are dead.'
Or some other result ending in horrible death
Brings me another idea, checkpoints and user death/resurrection possibly involving having to solve a random riddle posed by the Antinicholson who guards the gates of hell.
I'm just throwing shit out here

Re: PARSED ACTIONS
You should be able to lose limbs for the rest of the game. It's a good penalty that isn't having to load. This sorta doesn't really come under parsers, but perhaps being able to attach makeshift hooks or peglegs? If nothing else, it'd come under 'use x on y' I spose.

I love the idea of taunting the game/Crab Nicholson

Re: PARSED ACTIONS
You should assume that the player is going to attempt to eat every object in the game, and therefore create text to reply to "eat ____" [_____ being any specified item]. Maybe construct a puzzle around attempting to consume a normally inedible object, or something along those lines.
I dunno, it's purely a novelty.

What do you mean ?
So far, the game reacts to eating anything depending on the material of the object (some objects have special contextual text for that, too).
Re: PARSED ACTIONS
I meant a unique response to each individual object that one attempts to eat. It'd take too much effort, though, considering how many different things there are.
But a man can dream.

Re: PARSED ACTIONS
Oh, well I just added a few more for various objects. That'll be a community project though; you guys tell me what should be displayed when the player does something on a specific object, and I'll implement it.

Yeah, it shouldn't be too hard if we all come up with small paragraphs for certain items.

Oh my god I totally just idea'd.
So I'd always assumed Crab's house would have a lab in it for some reason but I hadn't figured out what. Let's say tehre's a puzzle where you need to get some acid or a gizmo or something from the lab for another puzzle, and in order to get it you have to take control of a tiny robot to do some tiny robot puzzle.
At another point in the game you've got cancer or some other problem inside your body, which you can solve by eating the tiny robot and having an adventure inside your own body.

While being chased by a killer, so you have to run away and find somewhere to hide inbetween controlling the robot fighting the cancer.

Re: PARSED ACTIONS
Expanding on the killer idea, what if you typed >rape killer, >fuck killer, or >have sex with killer before the tiny robot thing happens. Then when the adventure inside your body takes place, the killer is trying to get some action instead of trying to kill you. So if you get caught by the killer, you have to try and get him/her off of you or just take it. But if you let him/her do his/her thing you loose valuable time on the adventure inside your body. So you should only take it it if you've won the game before. Just a thought.
I also fucking love the fact that if you kill yourself you can still explore the place like nothing's happened.
